Sunsets do my soul good.
That one was taken yesterday. Today was gray and rainy, and I had plenty of time to come to the conclusion that my mind is better suited to busy-ness than idle contemplation. Then around 5, the golden sunlight started poking out and suggesting tonight’s sunset might not be half bad either. So at 7, I decided dinner could wait and set off to a park 20 blocks away.
Of course it started to rain (but there was a double rainbow!), and it looked like clouds were rolling in to wall off the Olympics. But I persisted and made it to the park in time to watch a gray cloud slide effortlessly across the stage, drawing away to reveal the graceful gradient of yellow sunlight through white into blue sky. Tufts of clouds skirted the mountains, but the snowcapped peaks rose higher and laid claim to the horizon.
There were photos, but the color doesn’t do justice to memory.
But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.
